Jeddah hosted the China-Saudi Media Symposium, bringing together representatives from Saudi and Chinese media organisations to discuss stronger cooperation, professional knowledge exchange and new approaches to global governance.
The symposium was organised by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Jeddah in the presence of Chinese Consul General Yang Yi. Representatives from several media institutions also attended, including the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) and Xinhua News Agency’s office in Saudi Arabia.
The event aimed to create new opportunities for dialogue and strengthen cooperation between Saudi and Chinese media organisations. It also comes as the two sides mark 70 years of relations between China and Arab countries.

Focus on Media Skills and Professional Exchange
A key part of the symposium was a discussion on developing journalists’ professional capabilities and encouraging the exchange of expertise between Saudi and Chinese media outlets.
Participants shared views on how media organisations can strengthen cooperation and improve professional practices while building a better understanding between the two countries.
The discussions also focused on China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI), which was launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the Summit of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Tianjin.

Five Principles of the Global Governance Initiative
The GGI is the fourth major global initiative introduced by President Xi Jinping, following the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative.
During the symposium, participants discussed its five core principles:
- Sovereign equality
- International rule of law
- Multilateralism
- A people-centered approach
- Taking real action
Participants said these principles could contribute to efforts to build a more just and balanced global governance system.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening the role of the United Nations and giving greater consideration to the Global South when addressing major international challenges.
Issues including climate change, the digital divide and regional conflicts were among the wider challenges discussed during the event.

Strengthening the China-Saudi Partnership
The symposium concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued media coordination and cooperation.
Participants stressed the role of media in providing accurate coverage, improving mutual understanding and supporting the broader strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and China.
The Jeddah event therefore served not only as a platform for journalists and media organisations to exchange professional knowledge, but also as another step toward strengthening communication and cooperation between the two countries.
