Chile signs the FIA’s United Against Online Abuse Charter as discussions focus on road safety, sustainable mobility and the future of motorsport

Dubai, UAE – August 28, 2026: H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), has met with the President of the Republic of Chile, H.E. José Antonio Kast, in Santiago to strengthen cooperation across mobility, road safety and motorsport.
The meeting reinforced the relationship between the FIA and the Chilean Government, with discussions focusing on shared priorities including improving road safety, advancing sustainable and accessible transport, and creating new opportunities for the continued development of motorsport in Chile.
The visit comes at an important time for motorsport in South America, with the region preparing to host major FIA events, including the FIA World Rally Championship in Paraguay and the FIA American Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which will bring together FIA Member Clubs from across the region.
A key outcome of the meeting was Chile’s decision to sign the FIA’s United Against Online Abuse (UAOA) Charter, strengthening its commitment to promoting a safer, more inclusive and respectful environment across sport.
Founded in 2023 by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the United Against Online Abuse coalition brings together governments, sporting federations, academic institutions and technology companies to address online abuse within the sporting community. Chile joins 13 other governments as a coalition member, supporting international efforts to combat harmful behaviour and improve protections for athletes, officials and others involved in sport.
Speaking following the meeting, FIA President H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem highlighted Chile’s important role within the FIA community and its growing ambitions across motorsport and automotive mobility.
“Chile plays an important role within the FIA community, with a proud motorsport heritage and a clear ambition for the future of automotive mobility,” he said.
He noted the country’s commitment to motorsport, road infrastructure and connectivity, while highlighting the potential for further cooperation in areas including safety, innovation, economic development and tourism.

“I was pleased to meet with President Kast and discuss our shared priorities for the future, in particular the significant potential for motorsport in Chile, both as a platform to advance safety and innovation and as a driver of economic growth and tourism, alongside our shared ambition to deliver safer, more sustainable and accessible mobility for all,” Ben Sulayem added.
The FIA President also welcomed Chile’s decision to join the United Against Online Abuse coalition, describing the move as a further step towards building a safer and more inclusive sporting environment.
Mobility and road safety formed another important part of the discussions. Ben Sulayem outlined the FIA’s data-driven initiatives designed to help governments, organisations and road users measure and improve safety performance.
These include the FIA Road Safety Index (RSI) and the FIA Driver Safety Index (DSI), which provide practical tools to measure, benchmark and strengthen road safety outcomes. The programmes support the wider ambition of reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries through improved data, awareness and risk management.
The FIA President also highlighted the work of the Automóvil Club de Chile (ACCHI), which continues to promote safer and more sustainable mobility across the country.

Led by President Alejandro Quintana, who also attended the meeting, ACCHI recently became one of nine new FIA Member Clubs to adopt the FIA Driver Safety Index. The initiative uses technology and data to help organisations better understand, assess and manage driver risk.
Through the FIA Safe and Sustainable Mobility Grants Programme and the FIA Safe Mobility For All and For Life international programme, ACCHI is also deploying internationally recognised tools to assess road infrastructure around schools and support safer journeys for children. The organisation is additionally developing a dedicated digital platform aimed at raising awareness of key mobility issues and strengthening engagement with the Chilean public.
The discussions also explored the continued development of motorsport in Chile and the role of the Federación Chilena de Automovilismo Deportivo (FADECH), the FIA’s sporting Member organisation in the country.
With Chile strengthening its engagement across road safety, sustainable mobility, motorsport development and digital safety in sport, the meeting signals a continued effort by the FIA and the Chilean Government to advance collaboration in areas that can support safer roads, stronger sporting communities and new opportunities for economic and social development.
